Ireland won the toss and decided to bowl to Bangladesh.

In the opening ODI matchup against Bangladesh in Chelmsford, Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie elected to bowl. The County Ground, where two games of the 1999 World Cup were played, hosted its first ODI in 24 years. Ireland only made one adjustment to the lineup from the Sylhet ODI, their previous match. Josh Little replaced Matthew Humphrey in the starting XI.

Instead of Taskin Ahmed and Nasum Ahmed, who was injured, Bangladesh substituted Shoriful Islam and Taijul Islam. In the most recent series, team management alternated between left-arm spinners Taijul and Nasum. However, Mustafizur Rahman was unable to make the starting XI. In March, Bangladesh and India competed in their first ODI series in 13 years, which Bangladesh won 2-0 in Sylhet. Before Ireland’s first-ever Test series defeat in Sri Lanka by a score of 2-0 last month, the host team also won the T20I series and one Test in Dhaka.
