Nazrul was born on May 24, 1899, in Churulia village, in what is now the Bardhaman district of West Bengal, India. He demonstrated an early flair for writing and music. Despite financial difficulties, he continued his schooling and finally joined the British Indian Army in 1917, where he began penning poems and songs expressing his anti-colonial emotions and desire for social justice.

Nazrul’s literary works frequently honored the struggles of the underprivileged and pushed for liberty and equality.
